Luis Mendoza, RHP (1-2, 5.40)
Rangers (42-41)
Sidney Ponson, RHP (5-1, 3.50)
Yankees (44-38)

Scouting Report:
Rangers: Since returning from the disabled list on June 20, Mendoza has done everything asked of him out of the bullpen and then some. In his last three appearances, he's thrown eight innings of shutout baseball. He earned a save in his first outing and a victory in the second. His last time out, he retired three of the four Phillies batters he faced. Since coming off the DL, Mendoza has six strikeouts compared to four hits allowed and no walks. Wednesday will mark Mendoza's first start against the Yankees and the Rangers' final regular-season game at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees: How's this for symmetry? Ponson's next probable turn would come against the Rangers, the same club that unceremoniously released him after off-the-field incidents made the organization question his desire. The Yankees would have little reason to not keep Ponson in the rotation after the right-hander hurled six innings of scoreless, five-hit ball against the Mets on Friday at Shea Stadium. Ponson walked four and struck out four in the outing.
