Chamberlain gave up one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings in his fourth start.
Then Chamberlain's former mates in the bullpen showed they're doing just fine without him, holding the Padres scoreless the rest of the way.

Another key hit from Alex Rodriguez drove in the go-ahead run. The Yankees ran their way to scoring opportunities, setting up both their runs with stolen bases.

The Yankees extended their longest winning streak of the season to seven and improved to seven games above .500 for the first time this year.

Rodriguez, who homered in the previous four games, drove in Derek Jeter with a single in the sixth off Josh Banks (2-1). Jeter had singled, stolen second and moved up on Bobby Abreu's grounder to first.
The Yankees got their first run without a hit to tie the score an inning earlier. Melky Cabrera walked with one out, then stole second and third. Jose Molina drove him in with a sacrifice fly.

Scouting Report:
Padres: Banks continues to give the Padres a nice return on their $20,000 waiver claim. He didn't get a decision in his last start, on June 13 in Cleveland, a game that included a 2 hour, 43 minute rain delay, though he left with the lead. Banks allowed three runs over five innings, including two home runs, one on a hit-and-run on a ball that was out of the strike zone. Banks threw a lot of strikes and hasn't walked a batter in his last three starts, allowing just four earned runs in his 28 innings since joining the team from Triple-A Portland last month.

Yankees: Making his first career start away from Yankee Stadium on Saturday, Chamberlain hurled six strong innings in his last outing, showcasing his improving leg strength. His final pitch, a fastball past Brad Ausmus, was clocked at a mouth-watering 97 mph. Chamberlain scattered six hits and allowing one run while walking four (two intentionally) and striking out two. He also threw a wild pitch. This start represented the final hurdle for Chamberlain after he had thrown 62 pitches in his starting debut on June 3 vs. Toronto and then 78 on June 8 vs. Kansas City. One drawback -- catcher Jorge Posada said that the Astros had taken advantage of Chamberlain's slow move to the plate.
