Here are two little Yankee gems buried deep in the history books;

8/27/38: In the first game of a twin bill at Yankee Stadium, Joe DiMaggio hits three consecutive triples. His offensive outburst helps the Bronx Bombers edge the Indians, 8-7.

8/27/77: At Yankee Stadium, Rangers Bump Wills and Toby Harrah hit back-to-back inside-the-park on consecutive pitches. Texas wins the game, 8-2.

Here's your daily Yankee History Trivia. Bet your friends, they'll never know any of this info.

Today's first gem is a personal favorite, having to do with River Avenue Whipping Boy, Sidney Ponson:

8/19/06 Designated RHP Sidney Ponson for assignment; Optioned RHP Brian Bruney to Triple-A Columbus; Recalled OF Aaron Guiel and RHP Jeff Karstens from Triple-A Columbus.

We had to reach back into the archives for this one, involving one of the game's greatest third basemen, Wade Boggs:

8/19/97 At Anaheim Stadium, Yankee third baseman Wade Boggs makes his pitching debut in a 12-4 loss to the Angels. The future 3000 hit club member hurls a scoreless eighth inning, giving up no hits, walking one, and striking out another.

Who says we don't bring you interesting, irrelevant, and thought provoking new content. You asked for it, we'll deliver.

We're announcing our newest addition to the River Avenue News Team: "What Happened in History?". This daily segment will highlight odd and random occurrences in Yankee History.

Not just great feats like perfect games, multi homer games, or jaw dropping attacks from the Kissing Bandit. We're promising head scratching, "Why Did You Bother to Think of That" moments.

So, without further delay: here is your first gem:

8/18/89 Aug. 18: Bucky Dent replaces Dallas Green as Yankee manager.

8/18/02 Mike Thurman: Recalled RHP Mike Thurman from Triple-A Columbus

8/18/04 Activated RHP Mike Mussina from disabled list and optioned INF Andy Phillips to Columbus.
