Reds rookie righthander Daryl Thompson shut out Yankee hitters yesterday, going five innings and giving up only four hits. Thompson was removed after reaching a pitch count limit, but the Bombers were unable to take advantage getting to the Reds bullpen early.

Yankee rookie long reliever turned starter, Dan Giese, pitched six and two thirds strong innings for the Yanks, but wound up on the losing side, giving up three unearned runs. Giese struck out five Reds batters and only allowed four hits.
