Here's your daily Yankee History Trivia. Bet your friends, they'll never know any of this info.
Today's first gem is a personal favorite, having to do with River Avenue Whipping Boy, Sidney Ponson:
8/19/06 Designated RHP Sidney Ponson for assignment; Optioned RHP Brian Bruney to Triple-A Columbus; Recalled OF Aaron Guiel and RHP Jeff Karstens from Triple-A Columbus.
We had to reach back into the archives for this one, involving one of the game's greatest third basemen, Wade Boggs:
8/19/97 At Anaheim Stadium, Yankee third baseman Wade Boggs makes his pitching debut in a 12-4 loss to the Angels. The future 3000 hit club member hurls a scoreless eighth inning, giving up no hits, walking one, and striking out another.
