According to the Associated Press and ESPN.com, Yankee closer Mariano Rivera underwent successful shoulder surgery:
New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera had surgery Tuesday on his right shoulder and is expected to resume throwing in three months, a month ahead of spring training.
Altchek shaved a calcified joint on the top of Rivera's shoulder.
The term successful is a tough label to put on the surgery this early, as Yankee fans will want to see success translate into another dominant season by the Yankee closer.
