According to an article written by Carrie Muskat over at MLB.com, Bernie Williams' attempt at making a comeback may have fallen a bit short due to the injury bug;

The former New York Yankees outfielder apparently injured his quad playing for Carolina in Puerto Rico, according to the New York Journal News. The 40-year-old Williams is trying to get in shape to compete for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic in March.

Williams went 1-for-3 for Carolina in his Winter League debut on Dec. 22. The five-time All-Star was the designated hitter in his first game since 2006. He has been hitless in two games since then, and Williams' last game was Dec. 26, when he went 0-for-1.

Bernie has never officially retired from baseball, but hasn't played on the major league level since the Yanks declined to offer him a contract a few years back. Bernie has hinted on numerous occasions that he's not retired, and this appearance in the World Baseball Classic was to be a platform to showcase his abilities.
