Scouting Report:
Yankees: Pavano is set to make his seventh start of the year for the Yankees following his late August return, taking on the Blue Jays as the Yankees complete their season series with Toronto. Pavano has won his past two outings despite not making it through the sixth inning, beating the Rays and Orioles. Pavano also faced the Blue Jays on Aug. 29 at Yankee Stadium, limiting the Jays to one run over six innings in a 2-1 Yankees victory.

Blue Jays: The ace of the Jays' staff notched his team-leading 19th victory of the season in his last start. Against Boston, Halladay allowed three runs on six hits over six innings. He was not particularly sharp, though, as he walked three batters -- the most since July 29 against Tampa Bay, a span of 10 starts. Against the Yankees, Halladay will aim for his 20th win of the season. It would mark only the second time in his career that he has reached the plateau, with the first time coming in 2003 when Halladay won 22 games en route to collecting the American League Cy Young Award. He is 14-5 with a 2.90 ERA lifetime against New York.

Roy Halladay continued his mastery of the Yankee lineup yesterday, striking out three and only allowing two runs (both homers to Giambi and A-Rod).

The win was Halladay's fourth against the Bombers this season.

Blue Jays: On Tuesday, Halladay picked up a win after allowing just two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks over six innings against Tampa Bay. The right-hander improved to 4-1 with a 1.96 ERA in five August starts and is now 8-3 with a 2.07 ERA over his last 11 outings. Halladay has registered 75 strikeouts and just 15 walks over 82 2/3 innings over those 11 starts. In his career against the Yankees, Halladay is 13-5 with a 2.92 ERA in 30 appearances.

Yankees: Pettitte exited after just 4 2/3 innings Tuesday night after he served up six runs on 10 hits to the Red Sox. It marked his shortest outing since July 2, also against Boston. He gave up three runs in the first three innings and recorded three early walks to get into trouble. Despite the rough outing, Pettitte said he felt that he was locating his pitches where he wanted to and throwing his changeup for strikes, he just couldn't get the outs. He is 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA against Toronto.

Scouting Report:
Yankees: Ponson gave the Yankees another quality start on Saturday against the Royals, holding Kansas City to two runs and seven hits through 6 1/3 innings. It marked his fourth straight start of at least six innings. He worked himself out of jams and effectively used his sinker to come up with groundouts. Ponson kept his team in the game long enough to come away with a no-decision. The righty has not allowed more than four earned runs in each of his past four starts, but he has been the victim of a lack of run support, as the Yankees have not scored more than three runs in any of those outings.

Blue Jays: Halladay was in top form on Saturday, limiting the Red Sox to one run on seven hits en route to his Major League-leading eighth complete game of the season. The lone run Halladay surrendered came via a solo homer by Boston's Dustin Pedroia in the ninth inning. Halladay finished with four strikeouts, one walk and 12 outs via ground ball in the 109-pitch effort. Dating back to June 30, Halladay is 6-3 with a 1.81 ERA in nine starts, during which he's amassed 59 strikeouts and 13 walks across 69 2/3 innings. Halladay is 12-5 with a 2.88 ERA in 29 career games against the Yankees.

Blue Jay starter Roy Halladay held the anemic Yankee offense to only two hits, and pitched a complete game shut out.

Joba pitched well, but not enough to save the Yankees from losing to Toronto's ace. Joba went 6 2/3 innings, struck out nine and allowed three runs. Joba's record dropped to 2-3 on the season.

Yankees: Making his first career start against the Red Sox on Sunday, Chamberlain allowed three runs over six innings, with all of the damage coming in the fifth. He threw 101 pitches, including a 37-pitch fifth. Pitching away from Yankee Stadium doesn't seem to hurt him, though, as he has a 1.11 ERA on the road and a 3.41 ERA at home.

Blue Jays: Halladay, who was recently selected to the All-Star Game for a fifth time in his career, dominated the Angels in his last start. He allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings to earn his team-leading 10th win of the year. He walked one and struck out seven, while needing 107 pitches to get through his outing. In his career against the Yankees, Halladay is 11-5 with a 3.03 ERA.
